Start to DJ is an exciting, project-based learning course for all ages, from K-12 to college. With three progressive levels, it combines workbooks, pre-recorded content, and on-site Certified Campus Coaches to teach the art of DJing.
Students learn hands-on, applying skills in real-world projects, fostering creativity and a lifelong passion for music and technology.
Our goal is to empower students to have a deeper relationship with music, and gain transferrable skills and confidence that will stay with them even beyond the DJ booth! There can be quite a lot of questions when starting a new program and bringing something in that is as innovative as DJ education. If you don't see the answer to your question here, please do not hesitate to reach out to us at [email protected] and we would be more than happy to help you!
Absolutely not! With our FLM (Facilitated Learning Model), you will be Certified and will be at least one step ahead of your students. Any musical background you have can help, but we encourage our Campus Coaches to be able to walk alongside our students, instead of having the pressure of needing to lecture and lead in the classroom with material they are not experts in.
If you are a DJ, or an aspiring DJ, that's great too, but we encourage you to come into the training and the program open-minded and willing to shed some of your own bad habits and biases.
Our program is designed to mirror the current Pro DJ world in which software is at the center of our industry. That being said, the apps we use will be the primary "equipment" you need.
The curriculum features Pioneer DJ's DDJ-FLX4 controller which works with iPad and Chromebook app (djay) and also laptop and desktop software (Serato and rekordbox).
We will help you order the gear that you need for your classroom if you have the budget to outfit your space.
We do recommend as close to 1:1 student to device ratio and a maximum of 4:1 student to controller station if you have hardware in your room. If you opt for just software/app, your students can still be extremely successful with Level 1 and 2 of the Start to DJ Program.
We have an annual Campus Coach Certification which includes the licensing of all of the curriculum and training.
The cost is $999 per level per 12 months with no limit to student seats. We offer a discounted $2499 for all 3 levels for 12 months.
We will also be offering a grandfathered rate for all of our early adopters.
Typically, we tell Campus Coaches it takes about 10 hours per level asynchronously. Talk to one of our specialists for more info on our in-person or zoom trainings, as we will occasionally host a live training at conferences or retail partners for new Campus Coaches.
Each level of Start to DJ is 8 one hour sessions. This can also be broken up into 25-30 minute sessions as well over 16 meetings. Our team can help you through the best way to get the program to meet your scheduling needs.
We are proud to focus on relationships instead of transactions and our proud to support our Campus Coaches in their communities. The Campus Coaches are an extension of our Coaching Staff and we want to be sure that they are confident and feel supported so we will do everything in our power to reach collective success.
We do offer a Premium Support add-on. Please ask our staff about how that works to see if that is beneficial for you and your organization.
